About

Our History

Known originally as the Toronto Rattan Company, Barrymore got its present name in the 1930s. Formerly located in a grand old brick factory on King Street West, in 2005 Barrymore moved to Caledonia Road in the heart of Toronto’s Design District. In December 2019 due to very difficult challenges the company went into receivership, however in January 2020 Creative Custom Furnishings a well-established veteran of Canadian Furniture manufacturing purchased the designs and intellectual properties and hired some of the staff. Our intention is to carry on the Barrymore tradition of fine quality Canadian built furniture into the next generation.

Here is an ad that appeared in Canadian magazines in the 1930s.

In the 1950s, Barrymore embraced the new look in furniture with names of collections like Modernaire and Starlight.
